Bug ID: 526046
Summary: nfs mount on a machine that is currently offline
stalls loading desktop
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.7.5
Reported In:
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Free space notification
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
I can reproduce what appears to be the same issue on Fedora 44 with Plasma
6.7.5, despite this bug being marked as fixed in Plasma 6.5.0.
System:
- Fedora 44 x86_64
- plasmashell 6.7.5
- plasma-workspace-6.7.5-1.fc44.x86_64
- Kernel 7.2.5-200.fc44.x86_64
- Plasma Wayland session
I have two NFSv4 shares configured in /etc/fstab:
192.168.178.168:/mnt/comfy-models /mnt/comfy-models nfs4
nofail,x-systemd.automount,_netdev 0 0
192.168.178.168:/mnt/models-internal /mnt/models-internal nfs4
nofail,x-systemd.automount,_netdev 0 0
When the NFS server is powered off, the Plasma wallpaper appears promptly after
login, but the desktop icons and panel are delayed.
The systemd journal identifies plasmashell itself as the process triggering the
automount requests:
21:00:44 mnt-models\x2dinternal.automount: Got automount request for
/mnt/models-internal, triggered by 3357 (plasmashell)
21:01:29 mnt-models\x2dinternal.automount: Got automount request for
/mnt/models-internal, triggered by 3357 (plasmashell)
21:02:15 mnt-comfy\x2dmodels.automount: Got automount request for
/mnt/comfy-models, triggered by 3357 (plasmashell)
21:03:00 mnt-comfy\x2dmodels.automount: Got automount request for
/mnt/comfy-models, triggered by 3362 (plasmashell)
21:03:45 mnt-comfy\x2dmodels.automount: Got automount request for
/mnt/comfy-models, triggered by 3370 (plasmashell)
The mount attempts time out after approximately 45 seconds.
After disabling "Free Space Notifier" in KDE Background Services and logging
out and back in while the NFS server remained powered off, the panel and
desktop icons appeared immediately.
No changes to /etc/fstab, NVIDIA, PipeWire, or the NFS server were required.
This strongly suggests that Free Space Notifier is still triggering automounts
for unavailable NFS shares during Plasma session startup in 6.7.5.
Please let me know if additional logs or tests would be useful.
