Bug ID: 526106
Summary: man and locale commands fail to write to stdout in
Flatpak Yakuake
Classification: Applications
Product: yakuake
Version First 26.04.3
Reported In:
Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
In a fresh Flatpak install of Yakuake on my Kubuntu installation, `man ls`,
`man man`, `man`, and `locale` all exit with code 0 silently without producing
any output. They work correctly in the `apt`-packaged version as well as in
plain Konsole. I've confirmed that both `man` and `locale` *are* attempting to
write to `stdout` but are failing with `EBADF` (Bad file descriptor), even
though `echo` works fine.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Yakuake from Flathub through Discover
2. Open Yakuake and press OK when prompted
3. Run either `man ls`, `man man`, `man`, or `locale`
OBSERVED RESULT
Any of the above commands run and exit without producing any output or opening
a pager.
```
noah@qqpp:~$ man ls; echo $?
0
noah@qqpp:~$
```
EXPECTED RESULT
`man` should open a pager or output the correct page, and `locale` should
output to the console.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a
terminal window): Kubuntu 26.04 LTS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.6
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.24.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Running `strace` on `locale` shows that writing to stdout is failing:
```
noah@qqpp:~$ strace -f -e trace=write,execve -o /tmp/locale_strace.txt locale
noah@qqpp:~$ cat /tmp/locale_strace.txt
80579 execve("/usr/bin/locale", ["locale"], 0x7ffed5677e38 /* 77 vars */) = 0
80579 write(1, "LANG=en_US.UTF-8\nLANGUAGE=\nLC_CT"..., 322) = -1 EBADF (Bad
file descriptor)
80579 +++ exited with 0 +++
noah@qqpp:~$
```
`strace` on `man ls` shows mostly successful writes except until the actual
page tries to print:
```
59679 write(1, "LS(1) Gene"..., 4096) = -1 EBADF (Bad
file descriptor)
```
