Bug ID: 526224
Summary: [Wayland][stylus] Cursor shape stays stuck; system
cursor and Krita's own canvas cursor are drawn
simultaneously
Classification: Applications
Product: krita
Version First 6.0.4
Reported In:
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: General
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
With a graphics tablet on a Wayland session, Krita's cursor shape does not
update while the
pen is over the canvas. The system cursor keeps whatever shape it had at the
moment the pen
entered the canvas, and because Krita also draws its own tool cursor / outline
on the canvas,
two cursors end up being rendered at the same time.
ENVIRONMENT
* Krita 6.0.4 (Arch Linux package krita 6.0.4-2, Qt6 build)
* KWin 6.7.5 / Plasma 6.7.5, Wayland session
* Qt 6.11.2
* Krita started with QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland (native Wayland, NOT XWayland)
* Tablet: Gaomon M8, driven by OpenTabletDriver 0.6.7 (LinuxArtistMode,
uinput virtual device)
* Krita cursor settings: Cursor Shape = "Tool Icon", Outline Shape = "Preview
Outline"
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start Krita with QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland.
2. Move the pen into the canvas.
3. Move the pen around, and try switching tools with the pen.
OBSERVED
* The system cursor keeps the shape it had when the pen entered the canvas
(typically the
plain arrow) and does not switch to the active tool's icon.
* Krita draws its own tool cursor / brush outline on the canvas at the same
time.
* Net result: two cursors are visible simultaneously.
* The system cursor only refreshes when the pen leaves proximity and
re-enters. Switching
tools or pressing shortcuts does not refresh it.
EXPECTED
* A single cursor that reflects the active tool, as it behaves on X11.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
* This is NOT a pointer/tablet position desync. The new KWin option
kcminputrc [Tablet] SyncWithMouse=true (from bug 505663) is enabled on this
machine and
works correctly - the pointer position is now shared between the pen and
the mouse. The
remaining problem is purely the cursor SHAPE.
* Related existing report: bug 501814 ("Cursor icon stuck on whatever was
last"), filed
against Krita for the same symptom on 5.3.0-prealpha back in 2025-03. I am
filing this as
a separate report because that one is now ~18 months old with a single
comment and no
developer response, and I have additional data to add (Krita 6.0.4 on Qt
6.11.2 with the
SyncWithMouse option enabled). Please mark as duplicate if you consider
that more useful -
but note the symptom is still reproducible across the 5.x -> 6.x
transition.
* Suspected area: on the tablet input path Krita never updates the cursor
shape, so whatever
was set last remains until the next proximity cycle.
