Bug ID: 526268
Summary: DDC/CI brightness control is missing in HDR mode
Classification: Applications
Product: systemsettings
Version First 6.7.5
Reported In:
Platform: CachyOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: kcm_kscreen
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
DDC/CI brightness control is not present when switching a monitor to HDR mode.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Display Configuration
2. Switch monitor to HDR mode (Enable HDR checkbox ticked).
OBSERVED RESULT
DDC/CI option disappears, it is now impossible to control monitor brightness.
EXPECTED RESULT
DDC/CI option should be present and all brightness controls should use DDC/CI
protocol to change monitor brightness when in HDR mode.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a
terminal window):
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
E Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Some obscure TVs might not support DDC/CI when in HDR mode, but KDE is mainly
used on desktop PCs with actual monitors which do support DDC/CI at all times
and in all modes. That's the purpose of the checkbox - if a user enables the
checkbox, KDE should ONLY use DDC/CI to control monitor brightness no matter
the display mode. If a user has some weird non-compatible hardware not intended
for PC use - they can uncheck DDC/CI support.
