Bug ID: 526324
Summary: Option to keep a fixed default sort order that
temporary sort changes don't overwrite
Classification: Applications
Product: dolphin
Version First 25.12.3
Reported In:
Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
When "Use common display style for all folders" is enabled, any sort change
made in any
window (for example, briefly sorting by Modified to find a recent file) becomes
the new
global default. Every folder and every new window then opens with that sort
until the
user manually changes it back.
REQUESTED FEATURE
An option to set a default sort order (e.g. Name, A-Z, Folders First) that is
always used
when opening a new window or navigating to a folder. Sort changes made while
browsing
would apply only to the current view and would not be saved as the new default.
Possible UI: a checkbox under Configure Dolphin → View → General → Display
style, such as
"Don't remember sort changes; always open folders with the default sort order."
USE CASE
I want every folder to open alphabetically, but I often sort a single folder by
date
temporarily. Today, that temporary change silently replaces my default
everywhere.
CURRENT WORKAROUND
Making the global view-properties folder immutable (sudo chattr +i
~/.local/share/dolphin/view_properties/global/) produces exactly this behavior,
since
ViewProperties::save() fails silently and each folder re-reads the locked
default. A
built-in option would avoid needing root and filesystem tricks.
