Summary: KDE Connect hijacks volume control on Android
Classification: Applications
Product: kdeconnect
Version First 26.08.1
Reported In:
Platform: Android
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: android-application

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
I've encountered this issue with version 1.35.17 of the Android application
where KDE Connect seems to hijack control of volume. This happens when there is
some content playing on the computer, as an example an animation in a website,
and you are playing some content on your phone as well. In this situation, KDE
Connect takes precedence over everything else and redirects volume adjustment
to the computer, making it impossible to adjust volume locally on the phone.
The issue is that, when this happens, KDE Connect intercepts volume adjustments
in such a way that Android's OSD does not appear on screen, thus making it
impossible to switch to the local device.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Play something on your computer, or open a webpage which has content that
the Plasma integration identifies as media (e.g. a page with an animation)
2. Play something on your phone
3. Try to adjust the volume
OBSERVED RESULT
Volume is adjusted on the computer.
EXPECTED RESULT
Volume is adjusted on the phone.
