Bug ID: 526455
Summary: Spectacle crashes with free(): invalid size in
background region capture on openSUSE
Classification: Applications
Product: Spectacle
Version First 6.7.5
Reported In:
Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: crash
Priority: NOR
Component: General
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
On openSUSE Tumbleweed, Spectacle 6.7.5 aborts when invoked in background
region-capture mode. Starting Spectacle interactively with the global shortcut
still works.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run: spectacle -b -r -o /tmp/spectacle-test.png
2. Select a region in the screen-capture UI.
3. Wait for the command to finish.
OBSERVED RESULT
The CLI process aborts instead of saving the selected region. The terminal
prints Qt QML propertyCache warnings about focusPolicy overrides, followed by:
free(): invalid size
KCrash: Application 'spectacle' crashing...
EXPECTED RESULT
Spectacle saves the selected region to the requested output file and exits
normally, as the interactive capture flow does.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0 (CoreAddons package)
Qt Version: 6.11.2
Spectacle: 6.7.5
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Reinstalling Spectacle and running with QT_PLUGIN_PATH, QML2_IMPORT_PATH and
LD_LIBRARY_PATH unset did not fix the crash. Downgrading libtesseract5 and
tesseract-ocr to 5.5.3-1.1 made the same CLI command work again. This is an
observed correlation; I cannot tell whether the cause is in Spectacle or a
library/package interaction. The normal interactive/global-shortcut capture
path continued to work. No useful backtrace is available; the process reports
free(): invalid size before KCrash.
