Bug ID: 526555
Summary: Merge output file is sometimes written with 0 bytes in
--auto mode (Windows, 1.12.4)
Classification: Applications
Product: kdiff3
Version First unspecified
Reported In:
Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: application
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
When merging three text files non-interactively (--auto), KDiff3 sometimes
writes an empty (0 byte) output file, although the exit code is 0. This happens
in about half of the runs with identical input. The same merge succeeds in the
other runs.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run: kdiff3 base.ws A.ws B.ws -m -o out.ws --auto
(three plain UTF-8 script files, about 2000 lines each; A and B change
different regions of base, no conflicts)
2. Check the size of out.ws.
3. Delete out.ws and repeat several times with the same files.
OBSERVED RESULT
Exit code is always 0. out.ws is created, but in roughly half of the runs it
has 0 bytes (4 of 8 runs and 3 of 8 runs in two series; same target folder each
time). Waiting 1.5 s afterwards does not change the size. Otherwise the result
is correct (53573 bytes, no conflict markers).
Saving manually in the GUI (merge window, Save) also left an empty file once.
EXPECTED RESULT
The merged output is written every time (53573 bytes).
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a
terminal window): Windows 11 Pro 10.0.26100
KDE Plasma Version: not applicable
KDE Frameworks Version: not applicable
Qt Version: Qt 6 (as shipped with the Windows installer)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
KDiff3 1.12.4, 64-bit Windows build, installed in C:\Program Files\KDiff3. This
version is not in the "Version First Reported In" list, so "unspecified" was
selected.
An older Qt5 build of KDiff3 (bundled with another tool) wrote the correct
output in 14 of 14 runs with the same files and arguments, in several different
target folders.
Windows Defender and Bitdefender are installed; adding an exclusion did not
help.
The result does not depend on the target folder.
