Bug ID: 526642
Summary: User switching unreliable when using individual icon
files in /usr/share/sddm/faces
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.7.5
Reported In:
Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: User Switcher widget
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
DESCRIPTION
When modifying the icon files in (openSUSE Tumbleweed) /usr/share/sddm/faces
from links to the default icon file to meaningful per user files:
From:
fred.face.icon -> .face.icon
hoss.face.icon -> .face icon
to individual icon files (png, 8 bit) having larger sizes than ".face.icon"
what is very small (~5 kByte) the user - switching becomes unreliable.
directory contents of /usr/share/sddm/faces
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 4920 1. Aug 18:07 .face.icon
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 107852 13. Jul 00:00 fred.face.icon
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 48525 13. Jul 00:00 hoss.face.icon
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 5111 1. Aug 18:07 root.face.icon
(no links to .face.icon)
>From say 10 attempts to switch to another user 5-9 end where you started from.
No change in user but just fall back to the initial user. Boring.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. modify icon files in /usr/share/sddm/faces to whatever you like to have per
user, however, each indivitual file being larger than the original .face.icon
2. reboot to ensure that things are read
3. try to change the user, will often fail as described
OBSERVED RESULT
switching user fails frequently, simply leaving you where you started from
EXPECTED RESULT
user switching works reliably each and every time.
