            Bug ID: 526780
Summary: Feature Request: Allow partial text selection for OCR
                    output (text overlay)
    Classification: Applications
           Product: Spectacle
      Version First unspecified
       Reported In:
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: General
          Assignee: [email protected]

  Target Milestone: ---

Current Behavior:
The recent addition of the OCR extraction feature in Spectacle is fantastic.
However, the current implementation only permits extracting and copying the
entire recognized text from the screenshot directly to the clipboard.

Requested Feature:
It would be incredibly useful to allow partial selection of the recognized
text. Ideally, the OCR engine's output should be rendered as a selectable text
layer overlaid directly on the image itself. This would allow users to use
their cursor to highlight and copy only the specific words, lines, or
paragraphs they need, right inside the Spectacle window.

Use Case & Justification:
Users frequently capture a full application window or a complete error dialog
just to extract a single transaction ID, error code, or specific terminal
command. Having to paste a massive text dump into an external editor just to
trim it down is an unnecessary friction point. Implementing a selectable
overlay aligns with the UX standard already established by other modern
screenshot utilities (such as the Windows Snipping Tool or macOS Live Text).

Alternative Implementation:
If rendering a selectable overlay directly on the QML image canvas presents
significant technical hurdles, a highly functional compromise would be to
display the recognized text in a dedicated side panel or pop-up where standard
text selection applies.
