--- Comment #2 from Christoph Cullmann <[email protected]> ---
Git commit 07a62de626468e95c323ae5f6f21b219b2bb6690 by Christoph Cullmann, on
behalf of Milan Mahato.
Committed on 07/10/2026 at 15:16.
Pushed by cullmann into branch 'master'.

view: match exact character sequences for selection occurrence highlights

Previously, occurrence highlighting unconditionally prepended and appended
word boundaries (\b) when the selected text started or ended with word
characters. This prevented occurrences from being highlighted when the
selection was part of a larger identifier (e.g. selecting 'mode' failed
to highlight 'mode' inside 'modeNew' or 'run_mode').

Modern editors (VS Code, gedit) perform exact substring matching when
text is explicitly selected.

Remove the synthetic word boundary injection in createHighlights() so
occurrences match the exact character sequence. In addition, ignore
selections shorter than 2 characters in selectionChangedForHighlights()
to avoid visual noise and unnecessary range allocations on single-letter
cursor selections.
