Bug ID: 526790
Summary: Investment account not converting currency charging
brokerage total
Classification: Applications
Product: kmymoney
Version First 5.2.2
Reported In:
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
My investment account and brokerage account both use GBP as their base
currency, but I hold a stock that is denominated in USD.
When I create a Buy Shares transaction for the USD-denominated stock, I enter
the transaction amount in USD and use the Exchange Rate/Price Editor to provide
the GBP/USD conversion rate.
However, when the transaction is entered, the USD total is charged directly to
the GBP brokerage account without being converted to GBP.
For example, if I purchase $1 of the stock, the brokerage account is charged £1
instead of the GBP equivalent of $1.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create an investment account and brokerage account with GBP as the currency.
2. Add a stock/security whose currency is USD.
3. Create a Buy Shares transaction for the USD security.
4. Enter the transaction amount in USD.
5. Open the Exchange Rate/Price Editor and enter the appropriate USD/GBP
exchange rate.
6. Enter/save the transaction.
OBSERVED RESULT
The USD transaction amount is charged to the GBP brokerage account as though
the currencies were the same.
For example, a $1.00 purchase results in £1.00 being charged to the brokerage
account instead of converting the $1.00 to its GBP equivalent using the
specified exchange rate.
EXPECTED RESULT
The USD transaction amount should be converted to GBP using the exchange rate
entered in the Exchange Rate/Price Editor.
For example, if the exchange rate is 1 USD = £0.75, a $1.00 purchase should
charge £0.75 to the GBP brokerage account.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
- Operating System: Fedora Linux 44
- KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
- KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
- Qt Version: 6.11.2
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I also noticed some potentially related behaviour with the Exchange Rate/Price
Editor.
If a price/exchange rate for the relevant currencies already exists, the
Exchange Rate/Price Editor does not appear when creating another transaction.
I'm not sure whether this is intended behaviour, but I would expect the
exchange rate to potentially be different for each transaction. For example, if
I make two USD purchases on different dates, the USD/GBP exchange rate could be
different for each transaction.
Could this also be related to the incorrect currency conversion described
above?
