            Bug ID: 526825
Summary: Per-screen virtual desktops: a new window opened while
the cursor moves to another screen makes that screen
switch to the launching screen’s desktop
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: kwin
      Version First unspecified
       Reported In:
          Platform: Arch Linux
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: multi-screen
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

With "Switch desktop independently for each screen" enabled, if I launch an app
and move the cursor to another screen before its window appears, the new window
opens on the other virtual desktop on the first screen. That screen,
practically, switches its virtual desktop.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Use two monitors and enable "Switch desktop independently for each screen"
(System Settings → Window Management → Virtual Desktops).
Put the primary screen on Desktop 1 and the secondary screen on Desktop 2.
With the cursor on the primary screen (virtual desktop 1), launch an app that
takes a moment to start (e.g. Minecraft, from Prism Launcher; Detaching a Brave
browser tab and quickly switching it to another screen as a new window).
Before its window appears, move the cursor to the secondary screen (virtual
desktop 2).

OBSERVED RESULT
The new window opens on the primary screen, and that primary screen switches
from Desktop 1 to Desktop 2. The secondary screen stays on Desktop 2. It only
happens if the cursor moves to the other screen while the app is starting. If
the cursor stays on the primary screen, the window opens there on Desktop 1 as
expected.

EXPECTED RESULT
The primary screen should stay on Desktop 1, and its current desktop should not
change because of a cursor moving to another screen. The window should open on
the screen and desktop it was launched from.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
Qt Version: 6.12.0
Kernel Version: 7.2.9-zen1-1-zen (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core Processor
Memory: 32 GiB of RAM (30.5 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor 1: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT
Graphics Processor 2: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core Processor

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The new window appears to get the current virtual desktop of the screen under
the cursor at the moment it maps (Desktop 2), but it is placed on the primary
screen, possibly because the app requests that position. Because the window’s
desktop and screen don’t match, the primary screen switches to Desktop 2 to
show it. With per-screen desktops, I would expect a new window to get the
current desktop of the screen it is actually placed on.
Also worth noting: here, screen/virtual desktop switching is indiscriminatory
of a screen being primary or secondary. This issue occurs on both ways.
