Warning-level journal entries from John's frozen boot
DESCRIPTION
plasma-login-manager refuses to allow users to return to their sessions after
rejecting invalid logins. new sessions can still be started
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. create two test users called alice and bob
2. pasted this line at the bottom of /etc/security/time.conf:
plasmalogin;*;alice;Mo0000-2359|Tu0000-2359|We0000-2359|Th0000-2359|Fr1000-1100|Sa0000-2359|Su0000-2359
3. added the pam_time.so line to /etc/pam.d/plasmalogin:
account required pam_nologin.so
account required pam_time.so
account include password-auth
4. whilst logged in as yourself, click switch user (not logout) and try to
login as alice outside of the allowed login window on friday. if you then try
to log back in as yourself, the login screen mouse input and clock freeze
entirely or a black screen is shown and you have to press ctrl+alt+f2 to return
to your desktop. if you login as bob after alice's failed attempt then the
process works fine
i reset both time.conf and plasmalogin to default using:
sudo cp /usr/etc/security/time.conf /etc/security/time.conf && sudo cp
/usr/lib/pam.d/plasmalogin /etc/pam.d/plasmalogin
from your account, switch user one more time. then enter a wrong password for
alice at the greeter, attempt to return to your live session and get the same
freeze
OBSERVED RESULT
1. logging in during the allowed window works fine
2. logging in as alice outside the 10AM-11AM window gets rejected at the login
screen. plasma login manager denies the login, but then refuses to allow users
who are logged in in the background to return to their session. only new
sessions can be started after PAM authentication failure.
EXPECTED RESULT
1. after a failed login attempt as alice, any already logged in user should be
able to return to their session by logging back in
