            Bug ID: 526889
Summary: Focus point extractor: add coordinate mapping for
Canon EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R6 Mark III
    Classification: Applications
           Product: digikam
      Version First 9.1.0
       Reported In:
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Metadata-Engine
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

digiKam's Preview focus-point overlay (added in 8.1.0 via bug 138704, extended
to
Fujifilm/Olympus in 8.8.0 via bug 508104) does not draw anything for CR3 files
from
the Canon EOS R5 Mark II or EOS R6 Mark III, even with the metadata engine set
to
ExifTool.

This is not a metadata-extraction failure. ExifTool itself reads the AF data
from
these files correctly:

  $ exiftool -a -u -g1 _MG_9422.CR3 | grep -i -E "focus|af"
  ...
AF Points In Focus : 94,95,96,97,133,134,135,136,137,173,174,175,176,177,212,
  213,214,215,216,251,252,253,254,255,289,290,291,292,293,294,328,329,330,331,
  332,333,367,368,369,370,371,372,407,408,409,410,446,448,449
  ...

These are indices into the camera's internal Dual Pixel AF II point grid, not
pixel
coordinates — converting an index to an on-image position requires a per-model
lookup table, the same kind of table that was added for Fujifilm/Olympus in
508104.
digiKam's existing Canon extractor (focuspoints_extractor_canon.cpp) appears to
predate both of these bodies and has no mapping table for their AF grid layout,
so
the Preview overlay silently shows nothing rather than erroring.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Shoot a CR3 photo using autofocus on an EOS R5 Mark II or EOS R6 Mark III.
2. In digiKam, set Settings > Configure digiKam > Metadata to use the ExifTool
backend.
3. Open the photo in Preview mode.

EXPECTED:
The AF point(s) actually used are drawn as an overlay on the image, as already
happens for Fujifilm, Olympus/OM Systems, and older Canon DSLRs.

ACTUAL:
No overlay appears. ExifTool confirms the AF data is present and readable, so
this
appears to be a gap in digiKam's per-model coordinate table rather than a
metadata
problem.

Happy to attach a sample CR3 from either camera if that helps build/test the
mapping.
