Bug ID: 526895
Summary: macOS arm64 DMG 3.8.5: ZWO, SVBONY, Atik, Astroasis
and SBIG INDI drivers are missing (present in the
Intel DMG)
Classification: Applications
Product: kstars
Version First 3.8.5
Reported In:
Platform: macOS (DMG)
OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
In the KStars 3.8.5 macOS arm64 DMG, several INDI drivers that depend on vendor
SDKs are not included in the app bundle, including all ZWO (indi_asi_*) and
SVBONY drivers, as well as some Atik, Astroasis (Oasis) and SBIG drivers. In
the Ekos profile editor, these drivers are shown with the cloud icon (remote
only), and selecting the ZWO CCD driver gives a warning that it can only be
used remotely. As a result, these cameras and accessories cannot be used
locally with the arm64 build.
The Intel (x86_64) DMG of 3.8.5 includes all of these drivers, so this affects
only the arm64 build. The same devices also worked locally with KStars 3.8.4
(reported by another user).
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install KStars 3.8.5 from the arm64 DMG (re-downloaded from
https://kstars.kde.org/download/macos/ on 2026-10-07, after the fix for bug
526660).
2. Open Ekos and create or edit a profile.
3. Look for "ZWO CCD" or the SVBONY camera drivers.
OBSERVED RESULT
The drivers are shown with the cloud icon and cannot be used locally. The
driver XML files are present, but the driver binaries are missing from the
arm64 bundle.
Drivers present in the Intel bundle
(kstars-stable-3.8.5-10835-macos-clang-x86_64) but missing from the arm64
bundle (compared with comm on the contents of Contents/MacOS):
indi_asi_ccd
indi_asi_focuser
indi_asi_rotator
indi_asi_single_ccd
indi_asi_st4
indi_asi_wheel
indi_atik_ccd
indi_atik_wheel
indi_oasis_filter_wheel
indi_oasis_focuser
indi_sbig_ccd
indi_svbony_ccd
indi_svbonycam_ccd
indi_svbonycam_focuser
indi_svbonycam_wheel
Other 3rd-party camera drivers are included in the arm64 build (indi_qhy_ccd,
indi_toupcam_ccd, indi_playerone_ccd, indi_fli_ccd, indi_apogee_ccd,
indi_qsi_ccd, indi_sx_ccd, etc.), so only specific vendors seem to be affected.
EXPECTED RESULT
The arm64 DMG includes the same drivers as the Intel DMG, and they can be used
locally.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
- KStars 3.8.5 (macOS arm64 DMG and Intel DMG 10835)
- macOS 27.0.1 on MacBook Pro M1 (where I checked the bundle contents)
- Also reported by another user with 3.8.5 on macOS 15.7.3 Sequoia (MacBook Air
M1)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
All the missing drivers depend on vendor SDK libraries (ZWO ASI, SVBONY, Atik,
Astroasis, SBIG), so the arm64 versions of these SDKs may not have been
included in the arm64 build.
