DESCRIPTION
Plasmashell (the dock) hangs, grays out and stops responding when hundreds of
files are being skipped (skip already existing) and only unfreezes when the
move operation (by Dolphin) has finished.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
The real scenario when this happened was a backup from phone to computer, where
at least 70% of the files already existed and the command was select all from
the phone MTP mount and move to a local folder in the computer. This is the
closest replica of it I can make up:
0. Make some kind of virtual file storage and throttle its bandwidth to 500
kB/s, and cd to it
1. Make a directory "a" and cd to it
2. Generate 1999 files with random names, 2 MB each
3. Make a directory "b" and copy all of the files inside "a" to it
4. cd to "a" and create an extra file with a random name
5. Open Dolphin in directory "a", select all the files, Ctrl + X
6. Switch to directory "b" and Ctrl + V
7. When prompted for the "This file already exists, do you want to overwrite"
check the "Apply to all" box and click "skip"
If not reproducible, keep the directory "a" in an external phone mounted via
MTP
OBSERVED RESULT
Plasmashell correctly displays "Moving 1 of 2000" at first, then the dock hangs
as described above and only unfreezes when the whole operation has finished,
which can take at least a full minute in my case
EXPECTED RESULT
Plasmashell should not hang due to a kio file move operation and correctly
display the rapid progress of
"Moving 1 of 2000"
"Moving 2 of 2000"
"Moving 3 of 2000"
...
