Bug ID: 526959
Summary: Desktop icon launch error blocks the whole plasmashell
interface
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.7.5
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
DESCRIPTION
When attempting to open an icon and if plasmashell throws an error (say, by
creating an empty file and naming it "test.desktop", then attempting to launch
it), the whole plasmashell, including the panel, becomes unresponsive to user
input.
While this might be due to the fact that the error window is treated something
like a "modal window" to the desktop interface, the fact that the window could
be minimised or put behind other windows (via Alt-Tab) potentially makes it
confusing to the user. And... while clicking on the panel will make the error
window pop up, if the error popped up in a non-primary display, where the panel
is not visible, the user could be even more confused.
It might be helpful if either:
a. The window dims the whole interface, making it more obvious that it's a
"modal window" that must be closed before other operations could be performed.
b. Make it "non-modal" and allow it to be ignored.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create an empty file on the desktop.
2. Name it "test.desktop".
3. Click on it.
OBSERVED RESULT
An error window pops up noting that the .desktop file lacks a Type= field. The
error window blocks the whole interface.
EXPECTED RESULT
See above for suggestions.
