DESCRIPTION

Navigating pages of a document via touchscreen is unnecessarily cumbersome.
Regular touchscreen panning is fine when using continuous view. However, there
are situations in which single-page view (or a variant thereof) are absolutely
required, e.g. for reading sheet music. In these situations, the page can be
panned and zoomed with touch, but navigating between pages is impossible
without using the arrow buttons in the page navigation bar. During a musical
performance, having a really easy and hard-to-mess-up touch control for moving
between pages is crucial, as one is rarely able to free up one hand at all.
(Bluetooth page switching controllers exist to solve this problem partially,
but are not a solution for many instruments which require extensive use of
feet, such as drumset and organ.)

Therefore, I’d like to request some more intuitive page navigation controls in
lieu of what evince already has (except better of course :P). Specifically, I’m
thinking of at least the following:
- Swipe left and right anywhere to switch to previous/next page (as long as the
page is not zoomed in enough that panning would be possible).
- Tap anywhere on the right side of the viewing area to switch to the next
page, and anywhere on the left side to switch to the previous page.

Note that Presentation mode is usually not suitable for these scenarios, as it
is required to switch between different scores quickly, and possibly annotate
scores too (during rehearsal/practice). Presentation mode does not offer all of
these intuitive controls either.
