After a flat sequence that is not followed by a light frame (a standalone flat
sequence, or flats
as the last job of the queue), the light box (flat panel) stays on
indefinitely. Nothing turns it
off when the sequence completes or is aborted.
This was first reported by mistake in the Invent issue tracker
(education/kstars#300).
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect a light box (tested with a WandererCover V4-EC) in the Ekos profile.
2. In Capture, create a sequence with only FLAT frames, flat source set to the
light box.
3. Start it and let it complete (or abort it with Stop).
OBSERVED RESULT
The light stays on after "Complete" (FLAT_LIGHT_CONTROL.FLAT_LIGHT_ON=On).
EXPECTED RESULT
The light is turned off when the sequence ends, as the code in stopCapturing()
intends.
CAUSE
CameraProcess::stopCapturing() (kstars/ekos/capture/cameraprocess.cpp) turns
the light off only
if CameraState::lightBoxLightEnabled() is true, but
setLightBoxLightEnabled(true) is never called
anywhere, so that block is dead code. The only other place that turns the light
off is
SequenceJobState::checkLightFrameScopeCoverOpen(), a precondition of the next
LIGHT frame, which
never runs when no light frame follows.
FIX
A merge request on invent.kde.org turns the light off in stopCapturing() based
on the light box
state (synced from the device at each job start), except for CAPTURE_SUSPENDED
(dithering,
follower cameras), and removes the unused flag.
Tested on real hardware (WandererCover V4-EC): the light goes off after a
completed and after an
aborted flat sequence, and stays on while the sequence is paused. Merge

KStars 3.8.5 (Flatpak, org.kde.kstars stable), also present in master as of
2026-10-14.
