Dear Kexi developers,
I would like to suggest an enhancement to Kexi's form functionality.
Currently, database forms do not appear to provide an option to define and
persist a default record sorting order.
In my database, I have a catalog number field stored as TEXT because some
catalog numbers may contain alphabetic suffixes. I would like the form to
display records in natural ascending order (1, 2, 3, …, 10, 11), independently
of the internal primary key.
It would be very useful to have the following options in the form properties:
Select a field for default record sorting.
Choose ascending or descending order.
Optionally enable natural sorting for text fields containing numbers.
Preserve the sorting configuration when the form is closed and reopened.
Maintain full record editing and navigation functionality.
I have examined the relevant source code, particularly
KexiFormView::initDataSource() and KDbTableViewData, and it appears that the
necessary infrastructure for sorting already exists, although persistent
form-level configuration is not currently exposed.
Would you consider adding this functionality to a future version of Kexi?
Thank you for your work on Kexi.
