            Bug ID: 527208
Summary: Plasma 6.8.0 regression: plasmashell fails to
terminate during shutdown, 40-second systemd timeout
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: plasmashell
      Version First 6.8.0
       Reported In:
          Platform: CachyOS
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Session Management
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: 1.0

DESCRIPTION
After updating KDE Plasma from the previous version to Plasma 6.8.0 on CachyOS,
system shutdown and reboot are delayed by approximately 40 seconds because
`plasmashell` does not terminate cleanly during session shutdown.

The systemd user service `plasma-plasmashell.service` enters the `stop-sigterm`
state but does not exit within its 40-second timeout. Systemd subsequently
kills the process with SIGKILL and reports the service as failed with result
`timeout`.

This issue did not occur before the Plasma 6.8.0 update.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Update CachyOS to KDE Plasma 6.8.0.
2. Log in to a KDE Plasma desktop session.
3. Initiate a system shutdown or reboot.

OBSERVED RESULT
System shutdown or reboot is delayed by approximately 40 seconds. The systemd
user service plasma-plasmashell.service fails to stop within its 40-second
timeout. Systemd then kills plasmashell with SIGKILL and reports a timeout.

EXPECTED RESULT
plasmashell should terminate cleanly during shutdown or reboot, without the
additional 40-second delay.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a
terminal window): CachyOS Linux
KDE Plasma Version: KDE Plasma 6.8.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.31.0
Qt Version: 6.12.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The issue has been reproduced on multiple CachyOS systems with different
hardware, including an Intel laptop and a Dell Vostro desktop.

Journal logs confirm that `plasmashell` is killed by systemd after the stop
timeout. NetworkManager dispatcher activation errors also appear around the
same time, but their relationship to the original delay has not been
established.
