Bug ID: 527254
Summary: Gwenview displays unwanted save prompt immediately
after modifying an image
Classification: Applications
Product: gwenview
Version First 26.08.2
Reported In:
Platform: CachyOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
Gwenview displays a save prompt immediately after making changes to an image,
even though I have not attempted to save or close the image.
This interrupts the editing workflow. I want to be able to modify an image
without being asked to save every time I make a change.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open an image in Gwenview 26.08.2.
2. Make a modification to the image.
3. Observe the save prompt that appears immediately after the modification,
without attempting to close the image.
OBSERVED RESULT
Gwenview immediately asks me to save the modified image. I cannot simply
continue working without the save notification appearing.
EXPECTED RESULT
Gwenview should allow users to modify images without immediately displaying a
save prompt.
Saving should happen when explicitly requested, such as by pressing Ctrl+S or
selecting Save from the menu.
Ideally, there should be an option to disable automatic save prompts and
notifications while retaining manual saving functionality.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: CachyOS Linux
Gwenview Version: 26.08.2
Graphics Platform: Wayland
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I investigated the source code with AI assistance and successfully modified
Gwenview 26.08.2 to remove the immediate save notification.
The modifications involved:
- app/savebar.cpp: Modified SaveBar::updateContent() to suppress the save
notification.
- app/mainwindow.cpp: Hid the SaveBar widget.
- app/mainwindow.cpp: Modified MainWindow::queryClose() to avoid unwanted
confirmation when exiting.
After rebuilding Gwenview, the unwanted save notification no longer appeared,
and I could continue editing without interruptions.
I would prefer an official setting that allows this behavior without modifying
the source code.
The modifications were developed with AI assistance and tested on my system.
