Bug ID: 527357
Summary: Non-linear gain mapping for HyperX QuadCast 2 S:
slider at 50% results in complete silence / 0% capture
gain
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.8.0

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR

ALSA sound cards output (cat /proc/asound/cards) showing HyperX QuadCast 2 S as
card 1
SUMMARY:
The volume/gain slider in Plasma Audio Settings does not scale properly with
the hardware gain range of the HyperX QuadCast 2 S microphone. Setting the
volume slider to 50% completely mutes the capture input (0% gain), and a 55%
slider position corresponds to only ~10% actual hardware gain.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Connect the HyperX QuadCast 2 S microphone via USB.
2. Open System Settings -> Audio (or the Audio Volume system tray applet).
3. Under Input Devices, observe the volume slider for "HyperX QuadCast 2 S
Analog Stereo".
4. Set the input volume slider to 50%.
5. Test the microphone input level (or click "Test...").
6. Slightly increase the slider to 55%.
OBSERVED RESULT:
- At 50%, no audio signal is captured; the microphone acts as completely muted
(0 gain).
- At 55%, the input capture corresponds to roughly 10% effective hardware gain.
The lower half (0%–50%) of the slider range appears unusable or truncated.
EXPECTED RESULT:
The volume slider should map accurately and proportionally (linear/logarithmic
decibel mapping) across the full 0%–100% range, where 50% represents a balanced
medium capture level rather than absolute silence.
SOFTWARE / SYSTEM INFORMATION:

- Windowing System: Wayland (KWin)
- Kernel Version: 7.2.10-1-cachyos
- Audio Server: PipeWire / WirePlumber
