Bug ID: 527417
Summary: System Settings > Sound stops responding while
PipeWire/WirePlumber is not servicing streams (after
resume)
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.7.4
Reported In:
Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Audio in general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
DESCRIPTION After resuming from suspend, audio was broken because of a
WirePlumber problem, reported separately at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/wireplumber/-/work_items/1047. The
built-in card's profile was "off", there was no default sink (auto_null), and
WirePlumber was no longer linking streams to sinks.
I opened System Settings > Sound to recover. All devices were shown as
disabled. After a few card profile changes, the window stopped responding and
was marked "not responding", and I had to kill the process. Audio came back
after restarting the audio services (systemctl --user restart wireplumber
pipewire pipewire-pulse).
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Get PipeWire into a state where WirePlumber does not link or service streams.
For me this happened after an aborted s2idle suspend followed by resume.
Open System Settings > Sound.
Change the card profile of one or more cards a few times.
OBSERVED RESULT The Sound KCM / System Settings window freezes ("not
responding") and has to be killed.
At the same time, pipewire-pulse logged repeated timeouts for the KCM's own
stream: mod.protocol-pulse: [System Settings] timeout on stream 0x... channel:0
systemsettings logged: qrc:/kcm/kcm_pulseaudio/main.qml:317:5: QML
OverlaySheet: Binding loop detected for property "implicitHeight"

object for name
"alsa_output.usb-C-Media_Electronics_Inc._USB_Audio_Device-00.iec958-stereo.monitor"
EXPECTED RESULT The KCM stays responsive and shows an error or disconnected
state when the sound server or session manager does not respond, instead of
blocking the UI.
