            Bug ID: 527437
Summary: Dragging a window between monitors drops it on the
screen with priority 3 (3 monitors, Plasma 6.8)
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: kwin
      Version First 6.8.0
       Reported In:
          Platform: Arch Linux
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: multi-screen
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION

Regression from Plasma 6.7.91 It started right after updating to 6.8.

As said in the summary dragging any window between monitors using either the
title-bar or meta+left click and letting go will snap it straight back to
whichever monitor out of my 3 is set to the lowest priority in settings (being
3 in this case) if i change the priority the monitor it snaps to will change.
This is also only observed with 3 monitors, if i disable one it works as
normal. This only started happening after upgrading to plasma 6.8.0. This bug
is quite disruptive to my use of plasma and i may have to downgrade until it is
fixed but i thought i would submit a report as i have found no one else with
this issue so far, (it is fairly niche only effecting 3 monitor configs.)

I use an NVIDIA GPU on the latest proprietary drivers as of writing. all
monitors are plugged into the same GPU.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Only observable on 3 monitors, config does not matter.
2. Drag a window from one monitor to another one, once you release left click
it should be "snapped" back onto whichever monitor is set as priority 3.

OBSERVED RESULT

The window follows the cursor correctly during the drag. On release it ends
upon the monitor with priority 3 , at a varying position, regardless of which
monitor I dropped it on. This happens with any window, including windows
dragged from screen 2 over screen 1. Dropping onto the priority 3 screen
behaves normally. A small drag within a monitor is fine. With edge snapping
disabled, every dropped window ends up on the priority 3 screen. It is still
possible to move windows by snapping them (dragging and snapping them does not
reset them to screen 3).

EXPECTED RESULT

The window stays on the monitor I dropped it on.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.8.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.31.0
Qt Version: 6.12.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
It follows the screen's priority number, not the monitor or its position. When
I set DP-1 (my left monitor) to priority 3 in Display & Monitor, dropped windows
end up on DP-1 instead.
It only happens with all three monitors enabled. Disabling either DP-1 or
HDMI-A-1 makes it go away, and re-enabling brings it back. Rotating DP-1 from
portrait to normal makes no difference. Quick tile and Meta+arrows are
unaffected, and windows placed that way stay where they are (the same with
dragging and snapping).

Layout (kscreen-doctor -o), all scale 1, no VRR or HDR:
DP-1 priority 2, geometry 0,0 1440x2560, rotated, 165 Hz
DP-3 priority 1, geometry 1440,873 2560x1440, 240 Hz
HDMI-A-1 priority 3, geometry 4000,1233 1920x1080, 60 Hz

A second user reports the same on 6.8 Wayland (r/kde, "updated to 6.8, now
windows snap to left hand side monitor when moving between monitors") but i
have found no other reports of info on this bug anywhere.
