**Title:** KWin Wayland repeatedly logs “Modeset failed: Invalid argument” on
Arch Linux with NVIDIA GTX 1070
**Product:** KWin
**Platform:** Arch Linux, KDE Plasma Wayland
**Description**
KWin Wayland repeatedly logs the following error during startup:
`kwin_wayland[842]: Modeset failed: Argument invalide`
The error occurred repeatedly between 20:59:37 and 20:59:40 on October 19,
2026, in the current boot journal.
**Hardware and software**
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
- NVIDIA driver: 580.178.4 (previously reported)
- KDE Plasma / KWin: 6.8.0-1 (previously reported)
- Distribution: Arch Linux
- Session: Wayland
**Expected behavior**
KWin should configure the display mode without repeatedly logging this error.
**Actual behavior**
Numerous identical `Modeset failed: Argument invalide` errors appear in the
system journal shortly after startup.
The desktop is usable, but the underlying cause remains unidentified.
**Additional information**
The journal also contains messages indicating that Intel SGX is disabled or
unsupported and that TDX is unsupported. These appear to be separate
informational hardware capability messages.
No NVIDIA driver changes are requested as part of this investigation.
Further investigation may require additional KWin logs and display
configuration details.
