This was fixed with KDE Gears 26.08.2 not by a plasma release, Dolphin is not part of plasma, FYI. This is the same cause as bug 524842: a folder in Details view with previews on, and without a zoom level of its own, opened at the icon size instead of the preview size, until the view mode was switched.
