With the lid closed, kscreen-doctor -o shows eDP-1 disabled with replication source 0, and DP-2 enabled with replication source 1 at position 1920,0. Display Configuration shows "All displays are disabled". Moving ~/.config/kwinoutputconfig.json aside and logging in again with the lid closed recreated the same state. Selecting "External only" in the display tray applet fixed both the message and Spectacle.
