Nope, turns out this is just an open issue against libinput 1.32, acknowledged
by the devs https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libinput/libinput/-/work_items/1341

You can verify with `libinput debug-events` that libinput is sending a lid open
event on the key press. Based on this, kwin is responding exactly as expected,
and there is no bug in kwin, so I'd recommend closing this bug report.

The libinput devs explain that they are trying to compensate for broken lid
switches by firing a lid open event when there is input from the internal
keyboard, but it appears they are having more trouble than expected detecting
when a keyboard is internal. If you are inclined to help them out, it may
still be helpful to provide them `udevadm` reports for setups that exhibit the
bug, as discussed in that issue report.
