            Bug ID: 527552
Summary: Blank icons in plasmashell and System Settings when
icon theme in kdeglobals does not exist
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: plasmashell
      Version First 6.7.5
       Reported In:
          Platform: Gentoo Packages
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Icon widget
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
If the icon theme set in ~/.config/kdeglobals ([Icons] Theme=) names a
theme that is not installed, many icons are not drawn at all (panel
icons such as the application launcher, Bluetooth, volume, network, and
most top-level icons in System Settings). No placeholder is shown, only
the background. Plasma does not fall back to a default theme.

I have run into this several times.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make sure the icon theme "doesnotexist" is not installed.
2. kwriteconfig6 --file kdeglobals --group Icons --key Theme doesnotexist
3. Log out and log in again.

OBSERVED RESULT
Most icons in the panel and the top level of System Settings are blank.
The tooltips and the clicks still work.

EXPECTED RESULT
A fallback to the default theme (breeze) or at least a placeholder icon.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- If the Theme key is absent, everything works as expected.
- Switching to Breeze in System Settings fixes it immediately.
- Also reproduced with a fresh user account.
- Console output when switching the Plasma style away from a missing
theme ("air"): kf.svg: Could not locate KSvg image set "air" ...
(this one is unrelated: plasmarc [Theme] name=air does not cause the
blank icons, I tested that separately).

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Gentoo, KDE Plasma 6.7.5, KDE Frameworks 6.29.0, Qt 6.11.2, X11 session
