DESCRIPTION
After updating to Plasma 6.8.1 I get artifacts on my external monitor, which is
connected to the NVIDIA GPU. The laptop's internal screen (Intel GPU) is fine.
Downgrading only kwin to 6.8.0 fixes it, the rest of Plasma stays on 6.8.1.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Hybrid laptop (Intel + NVIDIA), external monitor on HDMI driven by the
NVIDIA GPU, Plasma Wayland session
2. Update kwin from 6.8.0 to 6.8.1 and log in
3. Use the desktop on the external monitor
OBSERVED RESULT
Artifacts on the external monitor: they looked like something was blinking and
when I was moving the windows it was making "an old Windows 98 effect" when you
were moving the windows on an old PC while the RAM was full.
The artifacts don't show up in screenshots taken with Spectacle, only on the
physical monitor. The internal laptop screen has no artifacts.
EXPECTED RESULT
No artifacts, same as with kwin 6.8.0.

Operating System: CachyOS Linux, kernel 7.3.0-2-cachyos, Wayland
KDE Plasma Version: 6.8.1 (kwin 6.8.1 broken, kwin 6.8.0 works)
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.31.0
Qt Version: 6.12.0
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Not the kernel: it happens on both 7.2.11 and 7.3.0. The NVIDIA driver is the
same version (615.78.08, open kernel modules) before and after.
Things that didn't help on 6.8.1:
- Monitor's VRR set to Never
- Monitor's HDR and wide color gamut off
- 120 Hz instead of 240 Hz
- KWIN_DRM_NO_DIRECT_SCANOUT=1, KWIN_USE_OVERLAYS=0 and KWIN_FORCE_SW_CURSOR=1
together
Hardware:
- HP Victus 16-d0xxx, i7-11800H
- Intel UHD (Tiger Lake) + NVIDIA RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
- Samsung Odyssey G65B on HDMI, 2560x1440 @ 240 Hz, HDR on
