            Bug ID: 527601
           Summary: Kwin poor frame pacing
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: kwin
      Version First 6.7.5
       Reported In:
          Platform: Bazzite
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: major
          Priority: NOR
         Component: compositing
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION

Kwin seems to have really bad framepacing in games, without manual overrides
from gamescope.
Games like The Witcher 3 Remastered, on my hardware, has some weird cadence
when showing the frames. Like its double scanning, or not flipping the buffer
as it should.

The screen might be of relevance here, its a MSI URX321 240HZ 4K Display

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Bazzite install, stock
2. Install and boot Witcher 3 Remastered, no launch options
3. Run the game with no framelimiter, and vsync

OBSERVED RESULT
This is the result I get, its a juddery, jittery mess. Eventhough the frametime
and framerate suggest otherwise.

EXPECTED RESULT
This is running the game within gamescope, with the following launch options:
gamescope -w 3840 -h 2160 -r 240.0 --mangoapp --fullscreen --adaptive-sync
--immediate-flips -- %command% --launcher-skip

It is still not buttery smooth, but it's a lot better. Suggesting it is not the
game or the engine that is stalling, as all those settings are only impacting
Kwin. And you can observe not frametime spikes in the overlays.
