This file type is still not supported by KDE. When opening the file provided mask.nii.gz it opens with ark, after extracting the file mask.nii the Choose Application menu is opened. I downloaded the app from github and from Sourceforge and the linux versions are executables. Searched in System Settings-File Associations and couldn't find neither of the two filetypes Since it is a probably useful scientific app I couldn't find a good open source alternative. It is a pity but i have limited knowledge of the subject I set it as confirmed and transfer the bug to file associations.
