SUMMARY
Switching mpv to fullscreen with NVIDIA Vulkan reproducibly terminates its
Wayland connection at 6500K. The identical test succeeds with Night Light at
3500K. KWin itself remains running.
This has also been reported to NVIDIA via [email protected]. There is no
public upstream ticket URL yet. I am reporting here to help verify the
interaction between KWin's scanout feedback and Night Light.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Extract repro.lua from the attached archive.
2. Set a 6500K preview:
qdbus6 org.kde.KWin /org/kde/KWin/NightLight org.kde.KWin.NightLight.preview
6500
3. Immediately run:
mpv --no-config --vo=gpu --gpu-api=vulkan --gpu-context=waylandvk
--vulkan-device='NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU' --script=./repro.lua
--audio=no 'av://lavfi:testsrc2=size=640x360:rate=30'
4. Repeat with a 3500K preview. The same command succeeds.
5. Restore automatic Night Light:
qdbus6 org.kde.KWin /org/kde/KWin/NightLight
org.kde.KWin.NightLight.stopPreview
OBSERVED RESULT
At 6500K, shortly after entering fullscreen:
“explicit sync is used, but no buffer is attached”
and VK_ERROR_SURFACE_LOST_KHR.
The trace shows SCANOUT feedback followed by synchronization points and
wl_surface.attach(nil). At 3500K, neither the SCANOUT tranche nor the
null-buffer submission appears during the test.
EXPECTED RESULT
Fullscreen playback continues regardless of Night Light temperature.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
AMD Vulkan and AMD OpenGL work. Disabling the fullscreen animation does not
prevent the failure.
