Bug ID: 527740
Summary: Pinning AppImage to Task Manager creates broken
shortcut (icon disappears / app fails to launch
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.8.1
Reported In:
Platform: CachyOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: "Manage Desktop and Panels" window
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
When attempting to pin a running AppImage application to the Task Manager, the
resulting pinned shortcut does not function correctly. After pinning and
closing the app, clicking the pinned shortcut either fails to launch the
application, or the application's icon disappears/reverts to a generic icon.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Launch any AppImage application.
Right-click its icon in the Task Manager and select "Pin to Task Manager".
Close the running application.
Observe the Task Manager icon (it often loses its app-specific icon).
Click the pinned icon to launch the application again.
OBSERVED RESULT
The application fails to start from the pinned shortcut. Additionally, the icon
disappears or becomes a generic Wayland icon after the app is closed.
EXPECTED RESULT
The AppImage should be correctly pinned, retain its original icon, and launch
successfully when clicked, just like natively installed applications.
