After debugging, the root cause was a user systemd service that had: [Unit] After=graphical-session.target plasma-kwin_wayland.service ksmserver.service Requires=graphical-session.target This pulled graphical-session.target up immediately at session start, before KWin was ready, causing all XDG autostart applications to crash with SIGABRT. >From the journal, graphical-session.target was reached at [26.499]s while KDE Wayland Compositor only started at [26.816]s - autostart apps were launched before kwin even started. Fix: commenting out Requires=graphical-session.target resolved the issue completely.
