And sorry for the late response. I am not sure what you mean with "cropping a clip with the Transform tool". If you are referring to the Transform effect, there is not cropping option other than scaling it beyond the project's dimensions (or the canvas). In this case the red transform box extends beyond the canvas while the clip is only shown on the canvas. So, to a degree, this meets your request to see (at least roughly) what will be cut off. If you are referring to the Edge Crop or Crop, Scale, and Tilt effect, the cropping takes place within the project's dimensions or "on the canvas".
