Bug ID: 527997
Summary: RDP: text copied on the server arrives as \uXXXX
escapes with WinPR 3.32.2
Classification: Applications
Product: krdc
Version First 26.08.2
Reported In:
Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: RDP
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
Since WinPR 3.32.2, text with non-ASCII characters copied in an RDP session
arrives on the local machine as escapes. "á ť č ľ" copied in Notepad on the
server is pasted locally as "á ť č ľ".
onServerFormatDataResponse() stores the CF_UNICODETEXT that the server sends
and then asks WinPR for CF_TEXT, which it decodes as UTF-8. Up to WinPR 3.32.1
the CF_TEXT that WinPR converted from CF_UNICODETEXT was UTF-8, so this worked.
Since 3.32.2 it is ASCII with \uXXXX escapes (FreeRDP commit c6144f2), and KRDC
passes the escapes on as text.
Steps to reproduce:
1. connect to a Windows server with KRDC over RDP, clipboard sharing enabled,
with WinPR 3.32.2
2. copy "á ť č ľ" in Notepad on the server
3. paste it in a local application
Expected result:
The local application receives "á ť č ľ".
Actual result:
It receives "á ť č ľ".
The code is the same on master. I have a fix and will add it to merge request
273, which fixes the other direction (bug 527987).
Environment:
openSUSE Tumbleweed, kernel 7.3.0, Wayland session
krdc 26.08.2, FreeRDP / WinPR 3.32.2
Plasma 6.8.1, Qt 6.12.0, KF6 6.31.0
Server: Windows Server 2022 (10.0.20348)
I used an AI assistant while analysing this. I have checked everything above on
my own system and can explain it.
