--- Comment #8 from [email protected] ---
Confirmed still present on current git-master. Environment: Dolphin 26.11.70,
master at 11f42e62991f93036c8573c59ef7600ea9d3982f (2026-10-30), self-built
Release. KDE Frameworks 6.31.0, Qt 6.12.0, Plasma 6.8.2, Wayland, Breeze,
Arch-based distro.

Exact behaviour of the last column's right edge, after any other column has
been resized once:

Dragging left never shrinks the column. It only creates right-hand padding in
the view.
Dragging right grows the column by a small amount, but only when one mouse-move
event covers more than 10 px. Slow dragging does nothing at all, a fast flick
grows it once. Further growth needs another fast event.
Cause, all in the vendored KItemViews copy:

src/kitemviews/private/kitemlistheaderwidget.cpp, isAboveResizeGrip(): the
right edge of the last column returns Grip{lastRole, "rightPadding"}. There is
no column-resize grip for the last role.
Same file, mouseMoveEvent(): the rightPadding branch does currentWidth =
m_rightPadding - (pos - lastPos), clamps m_rightPadding to 0, then returns
early while currentWidth > -10. Only the delta of the single event is applied,
so the drag is not accumulated the way the normal column branch accumulates it.
m_automaticColumnResizing is only turned off after that threshold is crossed
once.
src/kitemviews/kitemlistview.cpp, applyAutomaticColumnWidths(): slack always
goes to the first column, so the last column has no width budget and no padding
of its own to trade.
Net effect: the symmetric side padding added for drop and deselect targets took
over the last column's resize grip, and the remaining path only reacts to a
single large event delta.

Suggested fix: either give the last visible role a real resize grip and keep
the padding grip to the right of the padding area, or treat the padding grip as
a column resize once m_rightPadding is 0 and accumulate the drag like the
normal branch does, dropping the -10 threshold.

TraceyC, the earlier "works in git-master" result does not reproduce here.
Which Qt version and widget style was that build using, and was the drag a fast
flick? If you had a particular commit in mind, please point at it, thx
