            Bug ID: 528190
Summary: sleep-delay inhibitor not released after DPMS
transition, delaying suspend on Plasma 6.8.2
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: kwin
      Version First unspecified
       Reported In:
          Platform: Fedora RPMs
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: wayland-generic
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

Following an upgrade to KDE Plasma 6.8.2, suspending my Framework laptop
frequently results in an approximately five-second delay before the display
powers off.

Instead of the usual smooth fade-to-black transition, Plasma displays the lock
screen, remains there for approximately five seconds, and then finally turns
off the display and suspends.

The system journal confirms that KWin is holding a systemd sleep-delay
inhibitor until the inhibitor timeout is reached.

Importantly, manually completing a DPMS power-off cycle using kscreen-doctor
--dpms off resolves the problem temporarily. Following this operation,
suspending the laptop works normally again.

This strongly suggests that KWin sometimes fails to release its sleep inhibitor
during the DPMS transition.

Steps to reproduce

Start a normal KDE Plasma 6.8.2 Wayland session.

Use the desktop normally.

Request suspension through Plasma's power-management interface.

Observe the lock screen remaining visible for approximately five seconds before
the display turns off.

Resume the session and examine the system journal.

The issue occurs repeatedly, although not on every suspend attempt.

Actual result

Plasma transitions to the lock screen.

The screen remains illuminated for approximately five seconds.

KWin retains the sleep-delay inhibitor until systemd's timeout.

The normal immediate fade-to-black transition is disrupted.

Suspension proceeds after the timeout.

Expected result

KWin should release its sleep-delay inhibitor after completing the required
screen-lock and DPMS operations.

The display should promptly fade to black, and the system should suspend
without waiting for the inhibitor timeout.

Workaround

Running:

kscreen-doctor --dpms off

and allowing the display to turn off completely before waking it restores
normal suspend behavior.

After performing this operation, the laptop suspends promptly, without
lingering on the lock screen.

This might be a regression of this bug
