            Bug ID: 528277
Summary: Renaming a Windows EXE without changing extension pops
                    a "Change File Type" dialogue
    Classification: Applications
           Product: dolphin
      Version First 26.08.2
       Reported In:
          Platform: Arch Linux
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION
Renaming A.exe to B.exe pops a dialogue with

"Change File Type

This will change the file type from "Windows or DOS program" to "Windows or EFI
program".
The file's content won't change but applications may no longer recognize it.
Do you still want to rename it?"

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a Windows executable called A.exe, it cannot be a random file, but a
real Windows executable
2. Kill all Dolphin windows, as caching interferes with showing the dialogue
multiple times for the same file
3. Start Dolphin
4. Rename A.exe to B.exe

OBSERVED RESULT
Nonsense dialogue before rename.

EXPECTED RESULT
No dialogue, just rename, as file type was not changed.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.8.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.31.0
Qt Version: 6.12.0
Kernel Version: 7.2.14-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 32 GiB of RAM (27.3 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor 1: AMD Radeon Graphics
Graphics Processor 2: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A KDE dev guessed at this (which sounds plausible, but no verification was made
by either me or them):

"probable cause is that .exe extension is registered with several MIME types in
freedesktop.org shared-mime-info database. With the old file, it can check the
magic byte and choose the best match; but during the renaming the new file does
not exist yet, and thus magic byte checking might not work, so it falls back to
a more generic / different type."

`file` output of a random file bug reproduces with:

`A.exe: Zip archive data, made by v2.2 MVS, extract using at least v2.0, last
modified Oct 16 2000 13:10:10, uncompressed size 69632, method=deflate`
