Bug ID: 528385
Summary: Unable to resume playback after system suspend
Classification: Applications
Product: amarok
Version First 3.3.3
Reported In:
Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Playback
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: kf5
1. Playback through the internal speakers
• Start playing a track.
• Wait suspend mode while playback is active.
• After resuming from suspend, playback can be restarted normally.
• However, if the track finishes naturally, it becomes impossible to
restart playback normally.
• Double-clicking a track does not resolve the issue.
2. Automatic stop at the end of a track
When the option "Stop playback after this track" is enabled:
• Start playing a track.
• Wait suspend mode after playing has ended.
• After resuming, Amarok is unable to restart playback.
The same problem occurs when playback stops automatically after reaching the
end of the last track in the playlist.
3. Manual playback stop
If playback is manually stopped before waiting suspend mode:
• Playback can be restarted normally after resuming.
• It is also possible to start playing another track.
• The issue does not occur in this scenario.
Summary of observed behaviour
Situation before suspend Behaviour after resume
Playback active through internal speakers Playback can be restarted
Playback manually stopped Playback can be restarted
Track finishes naturally Playback cannot be restarted
"Stop playback after this track" enabled Playback cannot be restarted
Last track in playlist finishes Playback cannot be restarted
Expected behaviour
After resuming from suspend, Amarok should be able to restart playback
normally, regardless of how playback was interrupted before suspend.
Actual behaviour
Under certain conditions, Amarok appears to enter a stuck state after the
system resumes from suspend.
Restarting Amarok does not necessarily resolve the issue.
Double-clicking a track also fails to restore playback when Amarok is in this
state.
Possible areas to investigate
Several potential causes may be involved:
• Incorrect handling of the playback engine state after automatic track
completion.
• Synchronisation issues between Amarok and the audio backend after system
resume.
• Incorrect reinitialisation of the Bluetooth audio output.
• Improper handling of playback termination events when the system enters
suspend mode.
It would be useful to investigate whether Amarok correctly restores its
playback state and audio output devices after the system resumes.
Technical information
• Linux distribution: Kubuntu
• Distribution version: 26.10
• Amarok version: 3.3.3
• KDE / Plasma version: 6.7.5
• Audio server: PipeWire 1.6.8 (PulseAudio compatibility layer, protocol

• Audio system: ALSA
• Audio controller: Intel Ice Lake-LP Smart Sound Audio
• Audio driver: snd_hda_intel
• Kernel version: 7.3.0-10-generic

Reproducibility
