Bug ID: 528358
Summary: Crash in QImage::toCGImage / CGImageCreate when
starting "Scan for Faces" on macOS 27.2 (digiKam
9.1.0)
Classification: Applications
Product: digikam
Version First 9.1.0
Reported In:
Platform: macOS (DMG)
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
Severity: crash
Priority: NOR
Component: Faces-Workflow
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
digiKam 9.1.0 (official macOS DMG) crashes immediately when "Scan for Faces" is
started from the People view. It worked normally on 31 Oct 2026 on the previous
macOS (a full-day metadata/XMP sidecar run with no problems). Since updating to
macOS 27.2 (build 26B123) on 1 Nov 2026, it crashes every time. It is the same
after a full restart of the Mac.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Open digiKam 9.1.0 on macOS 27.2.
2. People view → Scan for Faces → Search in: a set of albums (here 305 albums
of JPEG video frames, about 18,000 images).
3. Settings: Detect and recognize faces; skip images already scanned.
4. Click "Scan for Faces".
OBSERVED: digiKam closes at once (EXC_BREAKPOINT / SIGTRAP), before any
progress shows.
EXPECTED: the face scan runs.
SYSTEM:
- Mac15,3 (Apple M3), 24 GB RAM
- macOS 27.2 (26B123)
- digiKam 9.1.0, official DMG (bundled Qt 6 in
digikam.app/Contents/libexec/qt6)
- No Homebrew libraries are loaded by digiKam (checked in the crash report: 424
images, all bundled or system)
- Happened 5 times on 4 Nov 2026 (QImage::toCGImage each time)

The crash is inside CoreGraphics' colour-space check when Qt's Cocoa plugin
converts a QImage to a CGImage from a posted event in libdigikamgui, so it
looks like a change in macOS 27.2 that the bundled Qt does not handle. I can
test a pre-release build if that helps.
