Bug ID: 528445
Summary: Game FPS locked to ~30 on primary output when Adaptive
Sync is set to "Always" on a secondary output
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.8.2
Reported In:
Platform: CachyOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: multi-screen
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---

kscreen-doctor -o output
Setup:
- CachyOS, KWin 6.8.2, Mesa 26.2.6, kernel 7.3.1-cachyos
- RX 7900 XTX (+ Ryzen 7000 iGPU present)
- DP-1: Dell AW3423DWF, [email protected], HDR on, Adaptive Sync "Automatic"
- DP-3: ASUS VG249, [email protected], Adaptive Sync "Always"
Problem:
Fullscreen games on DP-1 are locked to ~30 FPS while DP-3 has
Adaptive Sync set to "Always". Changing DP-3 to "Automatic" or
"Never" immediately restores normal frame rates. Reproducible by
toggling the setting live.
Note: setting KWIN_DRM_USE_COLOR_PIPELINE=1 also avoided the
issue on 6.8.1 / 6.8.2, which may help locate it.
kscreen-doctor -o output attached.
Possibly related: bug 489050 comment 2 (game dropping to ~30 FPS
with adaptive sync), which the KWin developer said should be a
separate report. In my case the trigger is "Always" on a
*secondary* output affecting a game on the primary output, with
no other GPU-accelerated apps open on the secondary monitor.
