I also tested elevating to root via "sudo su" and then launching dolphin, the same error happens there as well. I ran the suggested workaround in comment #7 without kdesudo and can confirm that the workaround of "KDE_SESSION_VERSION=5 KDE_FULL_SESSION=true dbus-launch dolphin" running with sudo su works properly with the icons.
