Nobody destroyed anything intentionally, the old sidebar was based on Qt3Support which doesn't exist in Qt5, so it had to be rewritten no matter what, with the Qt5 port. I'm just offering to take a step back and think about the best new way to offer these features, rather than just blindly recreating the old sidebar "as is".
