You can already get this yourself by aliasing `dolphin .` to `dolphin`.

Invoking programs from the command line is an advanced feature used by advanced
users. `dolphin .` isn't such a burden to remember or make an alias,
considering that this is a totally standard convention for launching programs
via the CLI.

Also, making `dolphin` equivalent to `dolphin .` would disrupt people who want
a Dolphin window opened with the standard location, unless we added a special
option for them (`dolphin --open-with-standard-location?`). It's a lot of work
for saving two keypresses, and resources are already constrained, so I'm afraid
I'm going to have to mark this as WONTFIX, unless someone wants to submit a
patch to http://phabricator.kde.org/
