Debian Stretch, Plasma desktop, Kmail Version 5.2.3, KDE Frameworks 5.28.0, Qt 5.7.1 (built against 5.7.1). I'm glad I found this thread. After a lot attempt to fix it, it's just very frustrating to realize that nothing will be solve this problem but redevelop Kmail.
