Honestly I don't know why this is happening. I am on arch and don't have this issue. Try using the AppImage version from here: http://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/kdenlive-17.08.3-x86_64.AppImage Notice the instructions: "Just download the file and make it executable, ( chmod +x ) in a terminal, then run it.
